Te Aratipi & Waterfall Walk
Degree of difficulty: Moderate/difficult. Three significant hill climbs.
Distance: 11km or 5-6hrs (with breaks).
Highlights: Reaching the summit and the views from the top and the waterfall.
Start your adventure at Te Aratipi Homestead with a scenic farm trail. Wander through lanes with stunning views of mountain ranges, native bush, and distant farms. Cross streams, pass contented livestock, and ascend to the summit for breathtaking 360-degree panoramas of the Pacific Ocean and stunning Hawke's Bay.
Explore our QEII reserve, stroll through native plantings, and enjoy a well-deserved lunch at Te Aratipi Cabins—your halfway point.
Descend through rock formations, admire coastal views, and visit Te Aratipi Waterfall for a refreshing break.
Either add on the 3km loop or call it a day and conquer one more hill climb up to the golf course before finishing your journey and returning through Willow Lane and the limestone laneway back to the Homestead.
Te Mata Rolling Hill & Rock Country Walk
Degree of difficulty: Moderate. Two moderate hill climbs.
Distance: 11km or 4-5hrs (with breaks).
Highlights: Views of Te Mata Peak, rolling hills and the rock formations.
Begin your adventure at Te Aratipi Homestead, following arrows across the road and up the paddock to the native bush. Spot hidden metal birds along 'The Old Pump Shed Bush Walk,' then continue into a rock valley.
Pass Hobbiton Rock, through the valley to climb a hill to enjoy ocean views. Follow the sheep tracks, snap a photo with the Bay in the background, and tag @tearatipi whilst enjoying a spot of lunch with killer views. Descend down to traverse stunning rocks, passing Kahuranaki and towards the Tuki Tuki Valley and Te Mata Peak.
Climb the stile, cross the stream, and follow the track through the bush and gateways. Reach Granny Fay’s Vantage Point for sweeping views up to Mahia and Portland Island. Continue your journey through more rocky valleys before heading ‘home’ through the ‘Western Bush’ block, soon to be a QEII reserve, and along the road to your starting point.
